Checklist...barang keperluan asrama

Ramai yang bertanya apa yang perlu dibawa bila anak dapat tawaran belajar di sekolah berasrama. Biasanya sekolah akan menyediakan senarai barang2 yang perlu  dibawa dan barang2 yang dilarang sama sekali untuk dibawa ke asrama. Oleh kerana kami berdua pernah duduk di asrama lebih kurang 30 tahun dahulu dan ketiga2 anak kami tinggal di asrama, sedikit sebanyak ada pengalaman apa yang perlu dibawa.

Biasanya baju uniform ditetapkan oleh pihak sekolah sekiranya berbeza dari uniform sekolah2 kerajaan. Oleh kerana ketiga2 anak kami bersekolah di sekolah tahfiz swasta atau tahfiz kerajaan negeri, uniform mereka biasanya jubah. Kakak dengan jubah berwarna purple gelap dan setelah bergelar hafizah perlu memakai jubah biru turquoise, Abang pula jubah kelabu dan kopiah tahfiz manakala Adik dengan jubah putih, serban putih dan kain rida hijau. Seronok melihat mereka ke sekolah berjubah.

Berbalik kepada senarai barang2 yang perlu dibawa, mengikut pengalaman kami dengan tiga sekolah yang berlainan. Mungkin di SBP, MRSM atau sekolah2 lain sebahagian daripada barang2 yang tersenarai tidak diperlukan. Terpulanglah kepada kebijaksanaan masing2 membuat keputusan semasa membeli belah. Senarai ini pun dibuat atas permintaan sepupu yang anaknya menerima tawaran ke MRSM Parit dan ada yang meminta dikongsi untuk rujukan masa akan datang.

1.    Quran, buku solat sunat, buku solat yg ada zikir lepas solat, mathurat

2.      Telekung (untukperempuan), baju solat yang sesuai (untuk lelaki) and Sejadah
3.       Penyapu and sodok sampah
4.    Tong sampah and plastic biru

      5.       Kain buruk dan axion (nak cuci almari and tingkap etc)
6.       Mop and ubat lantai (kalau bilik kotor masa mendaftar)
7.       Plastik sampah hitam, kalau2 banyak sampah yang ditinggalkan pelajar2 senior 
8.       Feather duster
9.       Alas kaki
10.   Spray nyamuk
11.   Kertas lapik almari
12.   Alarm clock
13.   Torch light
14.   Cermin muka
15.   Air Freshener untuk almari
16.   Ubat gegat
17.   Tempat sangkut yang boleh lekat tu kalau nak sangkut apa2 dlm almari ker

19.   Key chain nak letak kunci –satu kunci untuk anak simpan, satu lagi lekat di bawah katil atau tempat tersembunyi dengan selotep, kalau kunci hilang ada spare, satu kita simpan dalam wallet. Kadang2 bila kunci hilang, kita tak perlu ke sekolah sebab ada kunci spare bawah katil :-) 
20.   Engsel – ikut alamari jenis macamana, kalau kayu boleh gunakan engsel, kalau besi biasanya dah tersedia
21.   Hammer and paku (paku biasa and paku dinding) atau tool box nak pasang engsel kalau takde 
22.   Ubat2 – ambik kat klinik yang kita dah biasa bawak anak untuk dapatkan rawatan. (ubat demam, selsema, batuk, sakit perut/cirit, lozenges ) – letak dlm satu bag or bekas
23.   Lain2 ubat – plaster, kapas, minyak mestika, minyak gamat, vicks, minyak kapak ker apa2lah yang dia biasa pakai (kalau budak lelaki elok bawak deep heat takut terseliuh masa riadah)
24.   Kain batik / kain pelekat
25.   Baju biasa untuk pegi prep, baju sukan, baju tidur. Kalau lelaki elok beli beberapa helai pagoda, lebih selesa kalau bilik panas dan perempuan tudung yang bersesuaian
26.   Pad, panty liner untuk perempuan
27.   Tisu paket kecik (selalunya minggu pertama masih homesick :-)
28.   Barang Katil – Cadar, Bantal and Selimut 2 set
29.   Towel 2 helai
30.   Toiletries (berus gigi, ubat gigi, sabun, shampoo, facial wash etc) and baldi kecik untuk letak perkakas mandi
31.   Barang basuh kain – Baldi, sabun basuh, sepit and hanger
32.   Bekas Plastik nak letak barang2 make up (bedak, deodorant, perfume, sikat etc) dalam almari kalau tidak bersepah
33.   Kepit kuku, cotton bud, sewing kit
34.   Beg sekolah and stationeries (calculator and oxford pencil box for maths)
35.   Kasut sekolah, kasut sukan, kasut pegi prep,sliper asadi dan slipper toilet
36.    Mug, sudu garpu, bekas tupperware utnuk simpan makanan atau biskut
37.   Makanan– mineral water elok beli mungkin sekolah tak ada water cooler
38.   Wallet, Photostat IC and syilings/phone card seperti italk untuk buat panggilan talian hayat!
39.   Boleh lah nak bawak satu family photo kalau2 rindu pada keluarga

      40. Kalau nak buat stiker nama pun boleh utnuk dilekat pada barang2 tertentu untuk mengelakkan dari tertukar

Setengah2 sekolah membenarkan pelajar membawa seterika dan kettle tetapi ada sekolah yang menyediakan bilik gosok dan pantry. Biasanya setelah mendaftar barulah pelajar dimaklumkan samada mereka boleh membawa barangan elektrik ke sekolah. Barang2 larangan termasuklah smartphone, MP3, MP4 dan barang2 tajam seperti pisau. Di MRSM, pelajar dibenarkan membawa handphone yang basic.

Ada sekolah yang menyediakan bilik asrama dan bukan dometri seperti MTS, satu bilik 8 orang (4 katil double decker) dan SBI juga 8 orang (4 katil single dan 2 double decker). IQKL   boleh memuatkan 12 orang sebilik dengan katil single. Ada ibubapa yang bermurah hati menyediakan tikar getah atau tikar buluh agar anak2 lebih selesa. Ada yang membawa meja jepun pelbagai guna, untuk makan, buat kerja sekolah etc dan ada yang membawa rak buku, rak tuala, rak kasut dan sebagainya. Terpulanglah kepada pengurusan sekolah dan keadaan sekolah yang mengizinkan barang2 tersebut dibawa. Apa yang penting, apa yang kita bekalkan pada anak2 biarlah menjadi manfaat kepada semua rakan2 dibiliknya dan bukan untuk anak kita seorang. Bawalah barang yang anak kita rasakan perlu dan bincang dengan mereka apa yang perlu dibeli. Sebaik2nya jangan bawa barangan berjenama walaupun kita mampu menyediakan untuk mereka kerana kita tidak mahu ada perbezaan di antara anak kita dengan anak2 yang ibubapa mereka kurang berkemampuan. Sekiranya kita mampu, tiada salah membantu rakan2 anak kita yang kekurangan. In sha Allah, segala sedekah yang kita buat untuk anak2 yang mencari ilmu Allah swt akan menjadi amal jariah untuk bekalan kita di akhirat nanti.

Majlis Ihtifal IQKL 2010

On 28 May 2011/24 Jamadil Akhir 1432H we attended the IQKL "Majlis Ihtifal". Last year we missed the opportunity to attend this event due to our trip to the Universal Studio. So, we did not want to miss the chance again this year. This time it was held at the Main Auditorium, IIUM. We were told that this year the event was more grand than last year since it was held at Masjid Negara.

Alhamdulilah, the auditorium was packed with parents and families of the students. It was officiated by Dato' Wan Mohamad bin Dato' Sheikh Abdul Aziz, ex head of JAKIM. Both Dato' Dr Hassan Ali and Dato' Hj Mohamad Hassan Muktar, the Founder and the Chairman of IQKL respectively attended the event and gave us a very enlightening speeches. Of course the event started with recitation of doa by Syeikh Said Abdel Latif Karawia from Al-Azhar and Quran recitation by a form 1 student. Syeikh Said was invited by IQKL to teach all the students talaqi and sanad for selected students and teachers in a 5 year programme. It's a great opportunity for the students to have Syeikh at the school for 5 years, they surely will make the most of his experience, knowledge and skill in teaching Al-Quran.

We were informed by the Chairman in his speech that IQKL has put in a system whereby each parent will be given a user ID and a password to access their children progress in academic, hafazan and other activities through their website. We thought that this is a great effort by Mudir and the IQKL teachers to ensure that parents can monitor the progress and development of their children constantly. As parents, we truly appreciate everything that the team at IQKL has done for our children. We know that it is not an easy task and we are grateful. May Allah swt blessed them.

After all the formalities, speeches and launching of website (http://www.iqkl.com.my/), the performance by the students started. A group of about 30 banat performed choral speaking about great muslim women while banin performed nasyid/qasidah. Faiz participated in the drama taken from a novel "Nyawa di Hujung Pedang". In between the performance, there were prize giving ceremony for students who excel in their exams, sports and hafazan. But the touching moments were the recognition given to those who have completed their hafazan of 30 juzuk Al-Quran. There were 10 of them and their parents were invited to present the token to their children. Congratulations to them and their parents.

We are quite impressed with the way IQKL has organised the event. They managed to get the alumnis to help them on the corporate videos, the website and the slides show during the event. It was great to see the children showed their hidden talents since we always see them wondering about in the school compound or playing futsal. Some of them are really talented in acting, singing or playing musical instruments. All in all, we enjoyed their performance and were glad to be part of the IQKL's family. Well done to the students and the teachers of IQKL.

IQKL - Perasmian Perpustakaan Bustanul Ariffin

Kami meluangkan masa pada hujung minggu yang lalu untuk menghadiri Mesyuarat PIBG IQKL yang ke-4 pada tanggal 14 Mei 2011. Kehadiran ibubapa pada mesyuarat kali ini amat memberangsangkan mungkin kerana kesedaran dan prihatin terhadap pembelajaran dan kehidupan anak2 di IQKL. Mesyuarat kali ini dirasmikan oleh YB Dato' Dr Hassan Ali, EXCO Kerajaan Negeri Selangor dan pengasas IQKL.

Sebelum mesyuarat dirasmikan, pihak sekolah menjemput YDP PIBG, Pengetua, Pengerusi IQKL Sdn Bhd dan YB Dato' Dr Hassan Ali bagi memberi sepatah dua kata. Dato' Dr Hassan Ali sempat bercerita mengenai niatnya menubuhkan sekolah tahfiz 15 tahun yang lalu dan segala impian beliau telah menjadi kenyataan dan IQKL bukan sahaja sebuah sekolah tahfiz, tetapi sekolah yang menjalankan sistem integrasi tahfiz dan akedemik. Bermula dengan beberapa orang pelajar, sekarang jumlah pelajar mencapai 200 orang sehingga banyak permohonan terpaksa ditolak kerana kekurangan tempat. Kami diberitahu mengenai rancangan membesarkan lagi IQKL di kawasan sekitar dan sudah ada yang sudi menyumbang bagi pembinaan bangunan sekolah tersebut yang meliputi kawasan seluas 2 ekar. Semoga Allah swt sahajalah yang dapat membalas mereka2 yang menginfakkan harta mereka ke jalan Allah swt.

Kami juga berpuas hati dengan komitmen dan dedikasi pihak sekolah dan PIBG yang bertungkus lumus melakukan segala yang terdaya demi anak2 kami yang belajar di sini. Maklum sahajalah, IQKL adalah sebuah sekolah swasta yang bergantung sepenuhnya kepada yuran sekolah dan sumbangan dari mereka yang sudi membantu. Banyak kemudahan yang disediakan dan diperbaiki supaya anak2 kami dapat belajar di dalam situasi pembelajaran yang kondusif. Terimakasih kami ucapkan kepada mereka. InsyaAllah, kami akan sentiasa menyokong dan membantu usaha mereka memartabatkan IQKL sebagai sebuah institusi tahfiz integrasi yang unggul di Malaysia.

Setelah selesai perasmian, YB Dato' Dr Hassan Ali dibawa melawat perpustakaan yang baru siap melalui sumbangan berbagai pihak seperti Perbadanan Perpustakaan Negeri Selangor dan ibubapa pelajar. IQKL masih memerlukan buku2 bacaan ilmiah untuk perpustakaan Bustanul Ariffin. Bagi sesiapa yang ingin mendermakan bahan2 bacaan yang sesuai untuk pelajar tingkatan satu hingga lima, sumbangan anda sangat2 dialukan. Semoga perpustakaan ini akan menjadi lubuk ilmu pelajar2 IQKL.

Faiz first week at IQKL

Our dilemma finally came to an end when we decided that Faiz will go to IQKL, of course after considering all factors and trying all that we could. He understood and accepted the decision with open heart as we had been discussing and talking to him throughout the ordeal.

We knew there were 26 boys and 22 girls who had qualified to join the school but on registration day there were 36 boys' names...certainly more people had came in even after the open day...perhaps some of them were not prepared or expecting other offers which normally happens for the first child.

We went to register him at IQKL on Saturday 2.1.2010 and it was a beautiful day. Tok Wan, Tok and Tok Abah came along to lend the support...all of them were very happy that we have decided IQKL for him. He was in a very high spirit and raring to go.

The registration was smooth, very well managed and I was very impressed. After registration, we went up to his room to unpack his bags...he's in room B2 (4th floor) with 11 other new boys (the room is headed by a Form IV student). The room is nice, clean, tidy and airy...one boy to a single bed and a personal metal locker. Of course they share bath and cleaning rooms.

His room mates include a boy (eldest in family) whose dad is an ex MCKK student who chose to send his son through this education system, another is a boy who had just lost his mother and eldest brother 2 months ago in a road accident. He had a scar on his face due to that tragedy ....tragic but the spirit is highly admirable. He was the third of his siblings who studied at IQKL. His two elder brothers have graduated as Al-Hafiz and one of them died in that road accident.

What interest me most is the commitment of 2 Chinese Muslim families who chose to send their boys to this school. One boy is much younger but is already enrolled at this school (both parents are local Chinese Muslims). The other is a boy, whose mother is a Chinese who converted to Islam, whom Faiz met in the cyber world (while playing on line games) a day before they were to actually meet at school...what a coincidence!!! What's important here is that having Chinese Muslim friends would be great for these boys.... There was also Faiz' third cousin (a female student - relationship through Harison), who came all the way from Parit Buntar.

We took the opportunity to go around the school and had the chance to look at the classrooms, science lab, computer room. I can say that the facilities are adequate and good. We finally left at 2pm after a briefing, shopping, lunch and zohor prayers. Both the mom and Faiz did not shed any tears and I'm sure we have chosen the best place for him. However, the home is different without him, of course...

We only heard from him two days later when he called to say that he was doing OK. Not much stories shared during the call. We were glad that he was coping well over there. On wednesday, he called again and this time he didn't sound good. He told us that he was having fever and not sure what to do. We contacted one of the ustazah to check on him and true enough about 10.30pm the ustazah called us to inform that she has brought Faiz to the clinic and his temperature was 40 degree celsius. The doctor gave him 2 days mc and the we were told to take him home. Of course we were glad to see him sooner than this saturday but we didn't want him to miss his orientation. Nevertheless, we went to the school at 11pm and took him back. He also brought along his pail full of dirty clothes...

From his story, we knew that he is enjoying himself in IQKL, meeting new friends and getting use to the daily routine. We hope and pray Faiz will start anew and do well for the next 5 years....insyaAllah.

Dilemma....Part 1

We are in dilemma right now. We are still thinking and looking for the right school to send Faiz. He wanted to follow his sister, to study in a religious boarding school and learn tahfiz. With his UPSR results, entry into these type of schools is getting tougher and challenging! The demand for these schools is getting overwhelming and people doesn't mind paying for the cost and fees just to get their children in.

We had a few schools in mind, integrated curriculum with tahfiz (whether as part of the curriculum or just as option). Al-Amin, Al-Hiraq, Al-Hikmah, Maahad Integrasi Tahfiz Sains & Teknologi (MTIST), IQKL to name a few. To our dissapointment, after the result was announced, Al-Amin and Al-Hiraq already stopped accepting new application. MTIST too had overwhelming applications that they only consider applications with 5A and Mumtaz in PSRA. So, what's left now?

IQKL (Institut Al-Quran Kuala Lumpur) set its minimum entry level at 4a1b. Nevertheless, we went to the school last saturday to submit our application. They held a walk in interview on that day and we were there to try our luck. IQKL was established 13 years ago and it started of as a madrasah and later moved their operation into a bungalow lot at Pinggiran Taman Tun Dr Ismail as a proper secondary school with tahfiz. Last year they moved into their new building sponsored by a well-known foundation. We were impressed when we first set our eyes on the school. Although it is not big and with limited compund, it has all the necessary facilities. When we went there on saturday, we thought we stand a good chance but to our surprise the place was pack with parents and their children, all with the same intention as us that we ended up parking our car outside the school compound!

The interview process started with a written test where the kids are required to answer a few general questions in "jawi". They are given 20 minutes to complete the test. Thereafter, they will be called one by one to test on their tilawah and tajwid. This stage is critical to see their skill in reciting Quran in the right manner. They can't proceed to the next stage if they fail at this stage. The next stage is hafazan where the kids are given half an hour to memorise four ayat or approximately half page of the Quran. They will be place at the musolla to memorise and later called to recite (tasmi') in front of the ustaz. Alhamdulilah, Faiz managed to get through all the stages satisfactory. Many left with dissapointment after the second stage.

While the kids struggled to go through the interview process, the parents were briefed by the Principal (Mudir) on IQKL. We were impressed with Puan Azimah, the Mudir who gave the presentation to us in English! She looks committed and the way she speak tells us that she knows her stuff at her finger tips. I later found out that she previously worked with IBM, no wonder. She has been teaching at IQKL for quite some time and when the school was corporatised, she was offered to take the lead. With the set up and presentation so way forward, I personally felt that this is the modern way of learning where you acquire knowledge to live in this world and prepare yourself for hereafter.

They have places for about 56 students and Puan Azimah told us that they will accept those with 4a1b and 5a who did well in the test. They will only consider 3a2b if there are places available. We know Faiz has done well in the test and we leave it to Allah SWT to determine whether Faiz will be selected to be among the millions of Huffaz in this world who preserve the verses of Quran.
